Horizons Specialized Services is a non-profit 501(c)3 and relies on charitable contributions to offset shortfalls in funding received from the state and federal government. Donations are tax-deductible and always appreciated. Contributions help our agency ensure services, programs and quality of life for clients.

Susan Mizen Legacy Endowment Fund

Inspired by Susan Mizen’s passion for helping individuals with intellectual or developmental delays or disabilities live their best lives, the Susan Mizen Legacy Endowment Fund provides financial assistance to support the mission and ongoing operations of Horizons Specialized Services. This fund was established in honor of Susan Mizen, Horizons’ Executive Director from 1995 through 2019. Susan’s character, integrity, and respect for all created a culture committed to supporting individuals on their own path to success. The Susan Mizen Legacy Endowment Fund is intended to promote equity, inclusion, and opportunity and to advocate for autonomy and self-determination.

Colorado Gives Day

Colorado Gives Day is an annual statewide movement to celebrate and increase philanthropy in Colorado through online giving. Community First Foundation and FirstBank partner to present Colorado Gives Day in early December.

ColoradoGives.org is the official online donation website. When you use the site to donate on Colorado Gives Day, your donation will be boosted by the $1.5 Million Incentive Fund and count towards prizes for nonprofits.

Do you expect a state income tax refund? Now you can give some or all of it to Horizons. It’s simple, fast, and puts you in charge of where your money goes. Decide how much of your refund to give. Horizons Holiday Wreath Making Workshop in Meeker raises funds and awareness for Rio Blanco Early Intervention and Family Support programs. This community event is appropriate for all ages and a great opportunity to learn how to make your own holiday wreath.

Little Points of Light

Horizons Little Points of Light annual mass mail campaign goes out in early December and raises funds for our Early Intervention and Family Support programs agency wide. Your donation will change the life of a child and family by helping them overcome obstacles and achieve goals.

Pick a Dish

This annual cooking contest in Craig benefits Moffat County Adult Services. Adults enrolled in our programs are paired with local restaurants to create and present a dish for tasting and judging. Pick a Dish takes place in April, showcases the best of Moffat County’s recipes, and allows the adults we serve to hone culinary, social, and vocational skills.
